Description:

Kennel Kitchen and Task Support volunteers provide support to the animal care team by doing cleaning and support tasks throughout the day including dishes, laundry, sweeping & mopping, restocking food and litter and organizing supplies and other miscellaneous tasks.

Dishes include all sizes of food and water bowls, litter pans, toys and misc items. Dishes are pre-rinsed then loaded into the commercial dish sanitizer, then put away when dry. Laundry consists of all sizes of bedding, towels and soft toys. Soiled laundry is loaded into a commercial washer and then moved to the dryer. When dry, it is then folded and stored in an organized manner in designated area.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be able to follow instructions and cleaning protocols, work independently and be receptive to feedback from staff. This job requires repetitious bending and lifting, and volunteers are exposed to various cleaning agents.

This position has no direct animal contact.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have reliable transportation to PAWS
  • Must have an active email address
  • Must complete New Volunteer Orientation, CAS Info Session and skills training.
  • Must pass a background check

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Tolerance for loud noise
  • Be in moderate physical condition because of the low to moderate level of physical activity involved
  • Tolerate exposure to various cleaning agents
  • Capable of working independently under limited supervision, after being fully trained.
  • Comfortable approaching staff with questions and asking for direction when needed.

Training Required:

  • PAWS New Volunteer Orientation
  • CAS Info Session
  • In-person skills training

Shifts & Hours: One 3-hour shift per week (shifts available Sunday – Saturday).
We ask for volunteers to commit to one weekly assigned shift for a minimum of three months.
