Description: Cat Care Assistant volunteers help staff and adult volunteers provide daily care for the cats during their stay at PAWS. Daily care includes feeding, monitoring for health and behavior, providing enrichment, and socialization, and various cleaning tasks.
This is a high animal contact position. Volunteers interact with cats of various breeds, personalities, and behaviors.
Duties: Specific duties vary depending on the day and time of the shift and may include any or all of the following.
- Prepare and distribute twice-daily meals.
- Refresh/refill water bowls
- Under supervision, provide enrichment, socialization, and comfort to the cats.
- Full and spot cleaning cages, colony, and visit rooms.
- Resetting cages, colony, and visit rooms with clean bedding, litter box, and toys.
- Other cleaning tasks related to daily care including dishes, laundry, sweeping/mopping floors.
- Cleaning carriers and crates.
- Other tasks as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must have reliable transportation to PAWS
- Must have an active email address
- Must have parent or guardian approval
- Must complete New Volunteer Orientation, CAS Info Session, and skills training.
- Must pass a background check
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and interns.
- Comfortable with an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to bend and kneel.
- Tolerate exposure to various cleaning agents
- Capable of working independently under limited supervision, after being fully trained.
- Comfortable approaching staff with questions and asking for direction when needed.
