What is Foster Care?

Foster homes provide a temporary safe place for some of our most vulnerable cats and dogs to rest and heal. Foster families also care for kittens and puppies until they are old and big enough for adoption.

Hours & Locations

When PAWS receives animals who are not quite ready for adoption, we look to our volunteer foster homes to care for them. These volunteers can foster as often as they are able – whether that’s once every few months or all the time. There will be plenty of other opportunities to foster, so there is no pressure to take an animal at any time.

When a foster home is alerted to foster care needs via email or phone, foster families receive information about an animal’s condition and needs which helps the family determine if they are a good fit. Foster families then come to PAWS Companion Animal Shelter in Lynnwood to pick up the foster animal(s) to take home.

Foster parents will need to bring the animal to PAWS in Lynnwood periodically to be examined by our veterinarian, receive vaccinations, or other treatment.

Once the foster period is over and the animal is ready to be available for adoption, the foster family returns the animal(s) to PAWS.
