Meet Totem Falls ASB

Using friendly competition to benefit animals!

The Associated Student Body at Totem Falls completed a school-wide donation drive to help the pets of PAWS. They ramped up the energy by using a little friendly competition! The familiar debate of cats versus dogs was put to good use – the team that brought in the most donations was the winner! Dogs were represented by UW Huskies and cats by WSU Cougars; the winning team even got to have their flag flown at the school!

For the ASB members, this project was as much about helping animals as it was seeing which team would win. Holden, a 6th grader, said his favorite part was “watching everyone donate and bringing this whole school together and just making this happen.” Grant, in 5th grade, said he liked “how everybody started to participate and show how much they cared for animals.”

We asked them, if they were to tell another school how to do a similar donation drive, how would they inspire others? Olivia, a 4th grader, said, “I think this is a really great opportunity to come together as a community.” Nataly, in 6th grade, thinks the sign waving really helped make an impact. “People made signs [supporting either cats or dogs] and then, at the end of the day, we had two different stations – one at the back gate and one at the front – and then we just waved signs to get people to notice and donate.”

So which team brought in the winning amount of donations? At least at Totem Falls, dogs rule.
