Orphaned bobcats released

July 26, 2023

The PAWS team successfully released two juvenile female bobcats back into the wild after almost a year in care. Both individuals were orphaned at a Snohomish County homestead and brought to PAWS Wildlife Center last spring. Before release, the staff fit each cat with a lightweight GPS collar to monitor their survival in the wild as part of a multi-year post-release project at PAWS. These temporary collars are designed to fall off on their own after many months.

Bobcats are more common in Washington State than many people assume. While they are not often responsible for the death of domestic animals, it is advised to keep unsupervised cats and dogs indoors to prevent any potential conflicts with bobcats and other wildlife.
