PAWS

Official Statement from the American Humane Association

July 28, 2005

I am writing on behalf of the American Humane Association, an animal welfare organization with the support of more than 6,000 animal care agencies across the country, to commend PAWS for its leadership in putting an end to the Omak Suicide Race. I express American Humane’s concerns, adding our voice to the call to stop this horrific event.

The American Humane Association, founded in 1877, is the nation’s oldest humane organization dedicated to protecting both children and animals. Our thousands of members are those who work in the animal welfare field and those who work as social workers and child and family welfare advocates, as well as individuals across the country who want to create a more humane world for children and animals. The Omak Suicide Race could not be more at odds with our vision.

American Humane supports the efforts of PAWS and is asking our constituents to join this effort to protect Washington State’s horses. We look forward to the mutual support of PAWS in the future on initiatives that ensure the safety and well-being of animals.
Sincerely,

Marie B. Wheatley
President & CEO
