Veterinary Clinic Assistant

Position description: Veterinary Clinic Assistants help the veterinary staff with daily clinic duties. This position is fast-paced and requires a volunteer who learns quickly. For most of the year, we are caring for as many as 100 animals at a time with various medical needs. Volunteers in this position are necessary for the success of our medical program.

This position has varying levels of animal contact, and can be informative for those considering a career in the field of veterinary medicine. Duties include: cleaning and wrapping surgical instruments; cleaning prep and surgery rooms in clinic; assisting with lab work; maintaining cage cleanliness; preparing medicine and subcutaneous fluids; assisting with laundry; sweeping and mopping; and safely handling animals.

Dates Available: year-round

Monday through Friday, 1-4 p.m.
No shifts available on Saturday and Sunday.
Volunteers are scheduled for the same shift each week.

Time commitment: A weekly three-hour shift for a minimum of three months.

Location: PAWS Companion Animal Shelter and Spay/Neuter Clinic, Lynnwood WA

Training required: Veterinary Clinic Assistants are required to attend:

  • A volunteer orientation.
  • A one to two-hour skills training.
