Post-Surgery Clinic Assistant

Position description: Every animal who is adopted from PAWS is spayed or neutered before he or she goes to a new home. PAWS also offers low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for animals of low-income households. Post-surgery Clinic Assistants help the veterinary staff with the animals after surgeries are performed.

Volunteers in this position are exposed to various cleaning agents. Animal contact is mostly with post-surgery animals in various stages of anesthesia. Volunteers must be able to work independently after trained, and use safe animal handling per PAWS protocols when working with the animals.

Duties include but are not limited to: moving animals from the veterinary clinic to the shelter after surgery using safe animal handling protocols (both facilities are on the same premises); helping to monitor the animals as they come out of anesthesia; cleaning and organizing the veterinary clinic after transporting animals; cleaning, wrapping and sanitizing veterinary surgery packs; assisting with laundry; sweeping and mopping.

Dates Available: year-round

Monday through Friday, 4-6:30 p.m.
No shifts available on Saturday and Sunday.

Time commitment: A weekly shift for a minimum of three months.

Location: PAWS Companion Animal Shelter and Spay/Neuter Clinic, Lynnwood WA

Training required: Post-surgery Clinic Assistants are required to attend:

  • A volunteer orientation.
  • A one to two-hour skills training.
