Pet Sitting and Boarding
In order to help people find pet sitting and pet boarding facilities, PAWS provides links below to groups that maintain lists of pet services.
As a non-profit organization with limited resources, we do not have the ability to evaluate the businesses listed on these websites, therefore we are not endorsing them. As a caring guardian, please undertake full research before entrusting your companion animal to any service provider.
Follow these tips to help ensure a business is reputable and will meet your and your companion's needs:
- Ask for references from friends who have recently used a pet sitter, pet daycare or boarding kennel.
- Check the business' status with your local Better Business Bureau.
- Never leave your animal at a boarding kennel, daycare or other overnight facility without taking a tour and introducing your animal to the staff.
- Set up a time for a pet sitter, you and your pet to meet to ensure your pet and the sitter are comfortable with each other.
For a boarding kennel, daycare or other overnight facility, ask questions such as:
- Where will your animal be kept? Will your animal be kept alone?
- Will your animal have access to the outdoors?
- Are the kennels adequately ventilated and is the temperature regulated?
- How will your animal be exercised?
- Will your animal be interacting with other animals and/or staff members? Will cats and small animals be housed away from dogs?
- What are the facility's policies on veterinary care?
- Can the facility accommodate your animal's special medical or dietary needs?
- What vaccines does your animal need before he can enter the facility?
For a pet sitter, ask questions such as:
- Can she provide proof that she is insured and bonded?
- Will she administer medications to your pet if necessary?
- Can he provide written documentation of services and fees?
- Is she familiar with local emergency vet clinics?
- How does she keep track of your pet's needs?
