PAWS Veterinarian Lends a Hand

PAWS Wildlife Veterinarian Dr. Steve Johnson is seen here helping National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) team members haul out a wayward Ribbon Seal. The seal had been spotted in Puget Sound waters twice in a two week period, but because the mammal was so far away from his home in the waters of Alaska, Dr. Johnson and the NOAA specialists decided to give the seal an impromptu exam. After getting a clean bill of health, the seal was released. This is just the second Ribbon Seal to be spotted in the waters of the lower 48 states in the past 50 years.
