From the heart

Photo of PAWS Executive Director - Annette LaicoDear Friends,

After what seemed like a long, dark, cold winter, here at PAWS' campus in Lynnwood the alder and hawthorn trees are now rapidly coming into leaf, and we are serenaded by songbirds from dawn to dusk. This can mean only one thing: that, ready or not, we will soon be inundated with a new generation of baby animals, many orphaned, others with their injured or sick parents. All will be in need of expert, loving care.

Every year PAWS cares for several thousand animals, and more than two-thirds are babies and juveniles. We invite you to help us help them this spring and summer by gathering family, friends or co-workers, and hosting a Baby Shower Gift Drive! A selection of the items we are in greatest need of are below, and you can find a complete wish list online at paws.org.

The orphans at our wildlife center need:

  • Digital thermometers, designed for small animals, to keep track of temperatures
  • Heat lamps to keep the little ones warm
  • Gift cards to home improvement stores so PAWS can safely maintain our wildlife enclosures
  • 20-gallon aquariums with tight-fitting lids to house baby mammals
  • Frontline® Plus for dogs, used to control fleas, ticks and lice on squirrels, Mountain Beavers and deer fawns!
  • Gently used towels, blankets and sheets---to use as snug bedding

And the animals at our shelter need:

  • KMR® and Esbiliac® formula to help kittens and puppies grow strong
  • Canned cat and dog food, especially Wellness®, Nutro® and Science Diet®
  • Science Diet, Nutro Max®, Sensible Choice®, and Costo's Kirkland® dry food
  • Advantage® topical flea treatment for both cats and dogs
  • Unscented, non-clumping cat litter (Safeway brand and Tidy Cat® are great)
  • Vicks® liquid vapo-steam for helping sick kitties breathe better while they're recovering
  • Laser pointers, and soft, washable cat toys
  • "Thinking toys" to mentally stimulate dogs in our care, such as Puzzle Cube® and Kongs®

We look forward to the day when our companion animal guests are safely adopted into their forever homes, and the wild creatures returned to their natural habitats, healed and ready to live wild again. Until then, you have our deepest gratitude for partnering with us in this vital work.

Wishing you a wonderful spring,

Annette Laico
Executive Director
