KISW's Twisted Radio goes vegan

Twisted Radio, the popular morning program on KISW 99.9 FM, Seattle’s Best Rock, went vegan for the Great American Meat-out March 19.

PAWS’ Stephanie Bell and PAWS volunteer Ken "The Vegan" Hankin helped Twisted Radio host Bob Rivers (pictured above) and several of his listeners learn how easy and tasty vegan food is.

Preparations began on St. Patrick’s Day as Ken, Stephanie, and other volunteers prepared sandwiches, bagels, soup, and other yummy foods to be handed out the next morning.

On March 18 Bob invited five of his listeners to stop by the studio and pick up the vegan food packs that Ken and Stephanie had prepared. There were also coupons for free dinners from area restaurants serving vegan fare.

The next morning the listeners were to call in and report on their meat-free day. The diners (including Bob) seemed genuinely surprised at how good the food was and how easy it was to go meat-free for a day.

Some had reservations about parts of their meals; the Tofurkey "meat" seemed to be either a love-it or hate-it substitute for turkey. But in whole these five people in Seattle (and thousands of others listening on their radios) learned that going veggie was easier than they had ever imagined.
