Wildlife Care Assistant

Position description: Wildlife Care Assistants spend much of their time cleaning cages, doing laundry and dishes, preparing food, assisting staff with medical care, preparing cages, sweeping and mopping, building, painting, and special cleaning projects. In the spring and summer duties will also include hand-feeding young mammals.

Experienced volunteers are given the opportunity to learn advanced animal handling and medical skills, including gavage (tube) feeding, handling raptors (ie., owls, hawks), administering oral medications, and giving subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.

Dates Available: Year-round

Shifts: April 1 - September 30 : 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., 1 - 6 p.m., 6 - 10 p.m.
October 1 - March 31: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 1 - 6 p.m.
Volunteers are scheduled to work the same shift every week.

Time commitment: A weekly shift of four to five hours for a minimum of three months.

Location: PAWS Wildlife Center, Lynnwood, WA

Training required: Wildlife Care Assistants are required to attend

• A volunteer orientation.
• A four-hour Basic Skills Training before beginning their shift.
• A three-hour Wildlife Ethics Workshop within their first three months of volunteering.
