From the Heart

Summer is baby season here at PAWS. Herons, ducklings, fawns, songbirds, raccoons…and of course, puppies and kittens. Every available space is in use. The little ones delight us with their antics, but we can’t help wishing that fewer animals needed help.

You may have noticed that this issue of the PAWS magazine is smaller than usual. Summer at PAWS means more animals to care for, a busy season of events, and the final push in our campaign to end the Omak Suicide Race. Though this issue is lighter reading, it is still filled with news and suggestions for ways to help animals during the long summer days. We’ll return to the full magazine next issue, which will come out in November.

I hope you’ll join the fun this September 10th with your family, friends and co-workers at PAWSwalk. To continue to meet the growing demand for our services, we need every two- and four-legged walker to help us reach our $130,000 goal. Also, please keep October 18th open for PAWS For A Bite at fine restaurants around the Seattle area. Check our Web site for the latest details and restaurants.

This year’s Annual General Meeting was inspiring as we honored two groups of young people who have made a difference in animals’ lives. Students at Bishop Blanchet High School and Girl Scout Troop 675 each turned their concern for animals into action and collected more than 2,000 pounds of food, toys and treats!

As we diligently continue life-saving work at PAWS, we are grateful for our friends who support us every step of the way. Thank you for helping make a better world for animals. Have a happy and safe summer!
