A Second Chance for Orphaned Animals

April opened the busy season at the PAWS Wildlife Center. We'll receive about 1000 animals per month during May and June and the orphans have already begun arriving. We are currently caring for 15 eastern gray squirrels, 2 cottontail rabbits, and 2 black bear cubs. All of the orphans require extra care. The Wildlife Center is open from 8am–8pm, April–September giving staff and volunteers plenty of time to make sure all the animals have clean beds and full stomachs. Our two newest arrivals, the black bear cubs, were found in a brush pile near Aberdeen. Attempts to reunite the cubs with their mother were unsuccessful. The cubs, one male and one female, are healthy, active, and gaining weight rapidly. We will raise them at our facility until December when they will be released into a winter den.
