Found a Lost Pet?

Thank you for taking the time to help a lost animal. People like you are responsible for keeping loved companions from becoming homeless, and ensuring many happy reunions.

Before you take a lost or stray pet to a shelter:

  • Determine where you found the pet. Make note of the street address, major cross streets or some other point of reference where you found the animal. Shelters can only accept in strays from the areas they service so you need to have an idea where the pet was found. These details will also help you to reunite a found pet yourself.
  • Contact the local animal shelter. Most likely the lost pet can go to the animal shelter closest to where you found him.  However some shelters do not take in strays, will only accept strays from their service area, or may be closed. Save time by calling or visiting the shelter’s website for information. Here is a list of other animal shelters and agencies in Western Washington. If you are not in Western Washington, search for shelters across the county at Petfinder.com.

PAWS takes in strays from Bothell, Brier, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo, Shoreline and Woodinville in Washington State. If PAWS is the correct shelter to take in the pet you found, read what to expect when you bring in a found pet to PAWS. If you are located outside of the area above, search for a shelter near you at Petinder.com or see this list of other animal shelters and agencies in Western Washington.
