PAWS Re-homing Service

Thank you for considering PAWS for your re-homing needs. At PAWS we believe in lifelong commitments to companion animals and that is why we offer a variety of ways to help you address common issues that may make it possible for you to keep your family together. We can provide you with information on dealing with behavior issues, listings for pet-friendly housing, dealing with allergies and other helpful information. You can also try finding your animal a new home on your own. Click here for a re-homing packet to assist you. However, if you have exhausted all of your options or you are helping a dog or cat other than your own, then our re-homing service may be your solution.

How it works
PAWS has helped thousands of cats and dogs find new and loving homes. In order for animals to be accepted through the PAWS re-homing service, the animal must be behaviorally and medically sound. Some breeds and temperaments of dogs and cats do very poorly in a kennel environment. For their sake, these animals may not be accepted into our re-homing service. Animals who have a history of certain behavior problems or aggression issues, cannot be accepted. Please refer to our guidelines for placing an animal in a new permanent home for information to assist you with placing your animal into a loving home on your own.

Before an animal can be accepted into the PAWS re-homing service, PAWS staff will review an animal history profile that you complete and the medical history you and your veterinarian provide, as well as observe behavior exhibited during the receiving process. If the staff is unable to handle the animal safely, PAWS will decline accepting the animal, and will discuss with you other possible options. We will use our resources toward placing your animal into a good home in a timely manner, but there are times when an animal will not exhibit any behavioral or medical issues until they have been at PAWS for a while. Therefore, PAWS cannot guarantee the placement of your animal into a new home.

As part of this service you will need to complete an animal history profile when relinquishing your animal to PAWS. This information, coupled with our extensive knowledge of animal behavior, will help PAWS make the right match between your animal and potential adopters. Please take a few moments to download and complete the appropriate animal history profile below and fax it to 425-742-5711. The staff will review the information and be in touch with you about your animal within approximately two business days. For assistance with placement of kittens, puppies or mother cats or dogs with litters you can contact us at 425-787-2500, ext. 850.

Adoptability
PAWS asks that you be realistic about the adoptability of your pet. You have an established relationship with the animal, and if you find you are unable to deal with a behavior or medical condition, then we must consider that a potential adopter having no relationship with the animal is not likely to take on that responsibility. We need to know the "bad habits" as well as the good so that we will be able to make a good match with a potential adopter. A staff member should be alerted to possible dangerous situations. There are times that a medical or behavioral problem cannot be resolved, so you may want to speak with your veterinarian or a PAWS staff member about euthanasia. If the animal has a behavioral issue that makes it unsafe or they are suffering from a medical condition, then euthanasia may be the best choice for the animal.

Cat City Placement
PAWS is also proud to offer a unique and innovative cat placement program through our Cat City Adoption Center located in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle. Cat City was the first urban-based cat colony adoption center in the greater Seattle area and has helped over 6,500 cat and kittens find new and loving homes. At Cat City, cats will relax in open colonies or luxury condo-style cages creating a less stressful atmosphere for adopters and felines alike. The re-homing fee for qualified Cat City candidates is $100.00 per cat.

In order for cats to qualify for Cat City, they must be comfortable with other cats and pass our evaluation process. In addition, they will undergo a medical examination and their behavior will be monitored while in the shelter. These evaluations will determine if transfer to Cat City is a safe and appropriate option for their placement. If the cat's medical or behavioral health deteriorates, they may be removed from Cat City for re-evaluation of their adoptability. The Cat City Placement fee is non-refundable should your cat not pass the evaluation process, or if it is determined that Cat City is not the best venue for maintaining the cat's well being.

Animal history profile forms
Please take a few moments to download and complete the appropriate animal history profile and fax it to 425-742-5711.
