From the heart
Dear Friends,
Many of you ask about Cosmo and Rocky, the two kittens I wrote about
three years ago, who I fostered for five weeks then adopted as
permanent life companions. I'm pleased to report they've grown
into wonderful, independent, yet affectionate boys who I cherish dearly.
And every year at this time, as PAWS' foster care team goes into overdrive
caring for so many litters of sick or unwanted kittens, I think of the amazing
dedication and skill that embody our foster care program. I think of how
selfless volunteers clean up after, medicate and sometimes bottle-feed
through the night the most fragile ones in our care.
I also think of our wildlife center staff and volunteers who daily tackle
piles of laundry, feed orphaned songbirds every half-hour, and scrub away
caked-on food that infant Raccoons have smeared around their enclosures.
The chores are endless, but our family at PAWS moves tirelessly forward to
save lives.
In June, we wrapped up another successful school year of delivering our
in-depth Kids Who Care program to fourth and fifth graders. We gave
90 humane lessons to more than 450 students in 15 classrooms. After a
short hiatus, we began new animal workshops for area summer camps in
late June, bringing educational messages tucked inside exciting hands-on
activities to eager campers.
Wherever your adventures take you this summer, I hope you have the
opportunity to admire the breathtaking wildlife all around us, or spend
time with a favorite companion animal. I also hope you take a moment
to reflect on how significant your support is to thousands of injured,
orphaned, abandoned and homeless animals. Our warmest thanks go to
every member of PAWS' family for giving animals---and the humans who
appreciate them---new hope for a brighter future.
All my best for a wonderful summer,

Annette Laico
Executive Director
