From the Heart

Nearly thirty-eight years ago some very brave individuals—with little money and passionate convictions to guide them —set about trying to help animals. They were determined to stop abuse, control pet over-population and make the world a better place for animals. Their dedication and resolve became the Progressive nimal Welfare Society (PAWS).

Since then PAWS has grown to include many different programs and thousands of members and supporters. Each playing a part to make PAWS an organization that makes a difference each and every day.

Because of you...

Hansel and Gretel, a bonded pair of older Basset Hounds who had been neglected found loving shelter at PAWS; they and four other dogs found new homes when they were adopted at PAWSwalk last month.

PAWS Wildlife Center is a .rst responder and the designated agency to coordinate wildlife rehabilitation efforts during oil spills. With the recent spill in Puget Sound last month, we are thankful that the immediate impact was much less than it could have been and only a few oiled animals were discovered.

We recently celebrated the ten-year anniversary of our historic campaign to free Ivan the Gorilla who had been con.ned alone to a small concrete cell in a Tacoma shopping mall for 27 years.

The readers of the Seattle Weekly voted PAWS The Best Charity in the Weekly’s "Best of" issue. The pilot program to suspend the killing of Canada geese within Seattle parks was a success.

We were able to respond to more than 50 instances of animal cruelty in the months of September and October alone.

Your investment in PAWS makes this work possible. Won’t you join me in making an extra gift to PAWS this holiday season to honor the legacy of our founders and all the animals in our lives. Now more than ever, your support is needed. Thank you for your caring and generosity.
