PAWS in the news
The programs of the PAWS organization were featured prominently in the Washington state media during the first months of 2000.
PAWS advocates were highly visible during the Seattle City Council circus hearings (see page 8). PAWS advocates were featured on news coverage by KING-TV, KOMO-TV, KIRO-TV, and KCPQ-TV. An editorial by PAWS Executive Director Kathy Kelly and Advocacy Director Will Anderson appeared in the Seattle Times. PAWS Communications Director Richard Huffman was a guest on KIRO-AM radio, discussing the circus hearings. The Seattle P-I and Seattle Times both featured PAWS advocates prominently, and PAWS Advocate Stephanie Jones was featured in a front page Seattle Times photo following the hearings.

The grand opening of PAWS Cat City (see page 4) was featured on KIRO-TV, KING-TV, and KCPQ-TV. The Seattle Times covered the event for their Sunday edition that week.
KOMO-TV and KING-TV both came out to Seattle’s Magnuson Park to cover the efforts of Paul Zimmerman and Bob Donovan, two friends who swam across Lake Washington as a fund-raiser for the homeless shelter animals at PAWS (see PAWS Notes on page 2).
PAWS advocate Stephanie Jones was featured in a KING-TV special report about the growing exotic animal problem. Also featured in the report was footage of Prince the Serval, a large African cat that PAWS transported to Shambala Sanctuary in California (see last issue of PAWS News).
The PAWS Lifetime Care program was featured on Northwest Cable News and KCPQ-TV, where Associate Development Director Kristopher Miner explained the benefits of the free program helping concerned companion animal guardians (see PAWS Notes on page 2).
A bald eagle from the PAWS Lynnwood Wildlife Center received an MRI from an Everett clinic in April. The procedure was covered by KOMO-TV, KING-TV, KIRO-TV, and KCPQ-TV, (see page 14).
