Giving the Gift of Love to PAWS

Year-end Giving

As the end of the year approaches, our thoughts often turn to future plans. It is especially true this year with the approach of a new century. It is also a time for sharing with others. Before leaving 1999 behind it may be wise to stop and review important financial matters, including the status of your charitable gift commitments. Gifts to PAWS at year-end can result in extra tax savings next spring. Only donations given by December 31, 1999 will be applicable to help reduce your tax bill next April.

If your income will be higher in 1999 than in past years, and you itemize your tax deductions, extra charitable gifts can help prevent you from being taxed in higher brackets.

Planned Giving

Planned Giving is a way to save now for a substantial gift to PAWS in the future. A planned gift can be made listing PAWS as the beneficiary in your will or life insurance policy. Another form of a planned gift is through a gift annuity or trust which permits you (or someone else) to receive income now and, upon your death, PAWS will then receive the gift or annuity.

Preparing a will is an emotional and thought-provoking event in our lives. Whether you have accumulated vast assets or have only a few possessions, a will prevents legal complications and delays. It directs your executor to deal with your estate as you wish.

Another important aspect of a will is that it allows you to provide for the animals you care about after your death. Whether it is for your own companion animals or for those at PAWS, you can continue your legacy of providing for them by including PAWS in your will.

Before deciding on what type of gift you should make to PAWS, please consult with an attorney or financial adviser. Tax laws change and your individual situation should be reviewed by a financial planning professional.

For more information, or to make a donation to PAWS, please contact Robbin Peterson, PAWS Director of Development at 425-787-2500 ext. 807 or robbin@paws.org.
