Over 300 rabbits find sanctuary; over 300 remain in Redmond roundup

Over 300 rabbits have found sanctuary in the round-up of rabbits currently underway in Redmond. PAWS is a member of the Redmond Rabbit Rescue Coalition, which has been capturing feral rabbits and abandoned house rabbits near the Microsoft campus. After being spayed and neutered, the rabbits are being released into a private sanctuary.

As of December 29, 1998, 351 rabbits have been captured, spayed or neutered, and released into the sanctuary. An additional 81 rabbits are in the process of either being spayed or neutered, or are being held for a mandatory one-month quarantine period. No rabbit has had to be euthanized during the project. The Coalition estimates that there are at least 300 more rabbits needing to be captured.

“We’ve had more than 100 volunteers working around the clock on this project,” says PAWS’ Stephanie Bell, “and we’re always in need of more volunteers.

To volunteer with the project, please contact Stephanie Bell at PAWS, (425) 787-2500 extension 812. To help provide financial assistance to the project, please contact Stephanie as well.
