Spay Day 98 A Huge Success

Tuesday, February 24 marked the fourth annual Spay Day USA, which is observed by humane organizations in hundreds of communities across the country. The event was originated by the Doris Day Animal League of Washington, D.C. and has resulted in the alteration of 150,000 cats and dogs nationally. This one-day effort is sponsored regionally by PAWS in an effort to reduce the tragedy of cat and dog overpopulation in Snohomish County. Twenty-seven veterinary clinics voluntarily reduced their fees for pet sterilization, making spaying and neutering more affordable for animal guardians.

Spay Day is designed to raise awareness about the tragedy of pet overpopulation and to empower people to make the responsible decision as animal guardians to alter their companion animals. This year's event resulted in 348 surgeries at low-cost prices, which translates into thousands of saved lives! PAWS would like to thank the participating veterinarians and community partners for their generous support of this important event: Safeway–fresh fruit donation; Jenny Meyer at McCann Erickson and David Moore with Jay Ray for their creative poster design; Curt Stevens at Art Craft–printing; Don Mason Photography; QFC–gift certificates for lunch; and Alfy's–1/2 price pizzas. PAWS would also like to thank Doris Day Animal League for their generous grant of $300 for lunch. Of course, thanks to our volunteers: Suz Gentiluomo, Caryl Sharpe, Laura Hugill, Heather Ohatas, Ann Tanner, Andy Goodstein, Lori Morrison, Connie Schwarz, Alisa Rorvick, and Diane Gardner for helping us out with lunch delivery.
