King County Parks Maintanence workers display "If you’re going to feed me..." signs. PAWS volunteers worked with the parks employees to post signs in parks around King County including Juanita Beach, Echo Lake Park, Five Mile Park, Marymoor, and Lake Wilderness.

PAWS is working with the King County Parks and Recreation Department to prevent the round-up and killing of migratory Canada geese in our parks. Handouts from humans, along with moderate temperatures and abundant waterways, make our region very enticing to Canada geese who fly in—and don’t fly out. With these changing migratory patterns, local populations of geese are growing and sometimes being perceived by public officials as "nuisances." We are tackling the root of the problem by installing 22 "Do Not Feed the Geese" signs at 14 local parks. Our aim is to educate the public about the darker side of bread crumbs and discourage people from feeding the geese, thereby saving the necks of our fine feathered—and too well-fed—friends.
