Animal Healing Center Finds Homes for Friendly Felines

How can PAWS find room for all the homeless animals that show up at our shelter? The Offsite Adoption Program is one way. Through this program, veterinary clinics and pet supply stores are caring for animals that need homes. Here’s a story of how the Animal Healing Center in Redmond, a partner in the Offsite Adoption Program, found homes for two cats with special needs.

Maggie, an endearing and petite Devon Rex, had a case of chronic upper respiratory infection which requires medication for life. She came to PAWS in January of 1997 and in May was sent to the Animal Healing Center under the care of Dr. Siegler and his staff. Through the PAWS website, a family saw Maggie’s story and photo and travelled to Redmond to meet her. Eleven months after setting "paw" in the shelter and six months under the care of the Animal Healing Center, Maggie finally went to her new home.

Mercedes, an independent brown tabby, was always cranky he ate. He too was moved over to the Animal Healing Center and was diagnosed with stomatitas, a type of gum disease. This upbeat tabby who loves to play was adopted in November by Tracy, a staff member at the Animal Healing Center.

The special needs of both cats made their adoption difficult. A perfect match with just the right person takes time. The Animal Healing Center provided these two with a caring home until a permanent solution could be found. We are thankful to the staff of the Animal Healing Center and the other Offsite Adoption facilities for giving our cats a chance to meet just the right person. Denise Kuhn is the Offsite Adoption Program Coordinator and can be reached at (425) 787-2500, ext. 254.

The Animal Healing Center is located at 8015 165th Avenue, NE in Redmond. Their telephone number is (425) 885-5400.
