Speak Up for Imprisoned Animals: It’s World Week for Animals in Laboratories

Join fellow animal advocates in speaking up for animals used in atrocious experiments during World Week for Animals in Laboratories (WWAIL), April 23-30, a week of action to expose the plight of the millions of animals who are held captive and tested on in the name of research around the globe.

WWAIL, launched by In Defense of Animals (www.idausa.org) in 1986, "seeks to arouse concern for animal in laboratories as well as educate the public about the scientific, moral, and economic objections to animal experimentation, also known as vivisection." To learn more visit www.wwail.org.

Lab animals in our area need your voice!

You can speak up for animals right here in our community at a demonstration at a primate lab this Friday, April 28 th in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood. Help inform the citizens of Belltown that they are living right next door to a lab run by the University of Washington that houses over 350 primates being used in infectious disease research.

By coming to the event this Friday, you'll also learn about the multiple USDA and Animal Welfare Act violations taking place right here in our neighborhoods in the name of research. To see a list of other local labs doing research with infectious diseases in highly populated areas of Seattle, visit www.labwatch.org.

Where: Meet in front of the Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) at 3010 Western Ave, Seattle 98121. Just a few blocks from the Seattle Center.

When: Friday, April 28, 2006, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
At 6:00 pm, some may walk to another lab on Republican Ave., just a little more than a mile away.

Contact: Any questions, call community volunteer Tava Goldstone at 206.551.4193. There will be signs available for people to hold and literature to hand out, or you can make and bring your own. Contact Tava for ideas.
