Animal Sexual Abuse in Washington State
Today's horrifying news report about the sexual abuse of animals on an Enumclaw farm has raised the issue of bestiality being legal in Washington State. Not only is it shocking that our animal-friendly state has not outlawed the sexual abuse of animals, it is also shocking to know that bestiality is illegal in only 33 states. Contact your local representatives at http://www1.leg.wa.gov/legislature to let them know you would be in support of legislation making bestiality a felony in Washington State.

Sign the Petition to Stop the Omak Suicide Race
PAWS' campaign to end the brutal Omak Suicide race is going strong: Crown Royal and Wal-Mart have withdrawn their financial sponsorships, major media have covered the controversy and dozens of influential animal welfare groups have joined the case, including the ASCPA (click here to read the official statement from Dr. Andrew Lang, ASPCA Director of Equine Programs.) With less than 4 weeks before the scheduled beginning of the race, more than 2,200 have signed the petition to present 5,000 signatures of protest to Washington Governor Christine Gregoire. If you haven't already, please sign it now then pass along to the animal lovers in your life.

Trader Joe's: A Bad Egg?
National grocery store chain Trader Joe's has thus far refused to enact a policy to stop selling eggs from hens confined in tiny wire coops called battery cages. Egg-laying hens in battery cages are the most intensively confined animal in the United States, each cage providing less than a sheet of paper's worth of space per bird. Trader Joe's competitors, Whole Foods and Wild Oats, have both agreed to stop selling eggs from battery-caged hens. Click here for more info and to tell Trader Joe's that you will accept nothing less than eggs from cage-free hens.
