Next Year's "Must-Have" Item!
H.B. 2091 & S.B. 5977 authorize a special license plate to raise funds for spaying and neutering of more unaltered pets in Washington State. The plate says "We Love Our Pets!" and has a cute dog and cat cartoon created by nationally syndicated cartoonist Brian Bassett.

Put Your Foot Down on Animal Fighting!
There will be a hearing Thursday, February 24, on House Bill 1579 to stop animal fighting in Washington. This bill will allow police and prosecutors to press charges against anyone involved in animal fighting- from publicizing a fight or providing the place for it to transporting animals for it. This bill is very important so please take a couple of minutes to contact your representative!
The issue
Animal fighting is a cruel and gruesome practice that is also associated with drug trafficking, illegal gambling, and violent crimes. Both dog fighting and cockfighting are illegal in Washington, but these gruesome blood sports continue due to their clandestine and secret nature. These crimes become even more horrifying when family pets are stolen and used as bait or for training animals for fighting. This part of the issue is often overlooked though it is one of the most egregious acts involved with animal fighting.
What you can do
H.B. 1579 is scheduled for a hearing this Thursday, February 24, before the House Criminal Justice and Corrections Committee and your voice, as well as that of your neighbors, friends, relatives and coworkers is imperative to helping animals.

Please pass this alert along to everyone you know in Washington who cares for animals. Just a minute of your time is all it will take! Thanks so much for taking time to help animals today!

Volunteer at Vegfest!
Vegfest is less than three weeks away! This healthy vegetarian food festival is a great way to help people to discover the many benefits of a vegetarian diet. This year's event is even larger than last year's, with much more food to sample. There will be over 200,000 samples available to give out. But this means that many more volunteers are needed!
If you can volunteer for at least 4 hours during the weekend of March 12th - 13th, you'll receive a free Vegfest T-shirt and free admission to the event!
Many people have already signed up to volunteer, but lots more are needed. There are opportunities for food demonstrating (serving samples), cashiers, restockers, greeters and roles for families. There is a big need for volunteers on Saturday March 12th and on Sunday afternoon. People are also needed to help set up the event on Friday March 11th and to pack everything up on Sunday evening. To sign up as a volunteer, please go to www.vegofwa.org/vegfest/volunteer.html as soon as possible and complete the form. Volunteer for a fun time!
